Sri Yamuna Mata Grama

Please note, this is one of my old videos. For complete information watch the video at the bottom of the page.

The village of Yamuna Mata is situated two and a half km east of Govardhana. It is said that when Sri Krishna lifted the Govardhana Hill, Sri Yamuna-river flowed through it. Hence this place is called Yamuna Mata. Local people call this place “Jamuna Mata”.

Sri Kuman Das Baithaka

The pujari said:

Sri Kuman das was such a great devotee that Lord Krishna would play in his lap. It was because of this that one day king Akbar requested him to visit his capital, Sri Kuman das just said that he would come if he had time.

Many years passed and still Sri Kuman das did not visit king Akbar’s capital, even though king Akbar would always send a messenger asking Sri Kuman das about when he would come. One day, king Akbar decided to send a palanquin and horses to Sri Kuman das with a message that the palanquin and horses would pick him up and drop him off in the same way. Sri Kuman das sent back the palanquin and horses with a message that he had no time.

After doing his bhajan Sri Kuman das was thinking, “The King might think that I am proud”. Sri Kuman das decided to go walking to King Akbar’s capital. King Akbar welcomed him and that night served him well.

The next morning Sri Kuman das said to king Akbar “I would like to go now”.

The king replied “since you came walking you must be tired, why don’t you rest for two to three days while I arrange a palanquin and horses for you”.

Sri Kuman das said “The way I came was good so, I would like to go the same way back”.

King Akbar still wanted to give something to Sri Kuman das and so he offered a Gold mirror. Sri Kuman das refused to accept and said “If it slips from my hand it will break or someone will kill me in order to have this mirror”.

King Akbar said “you can ask me anything you want”.

“Anything” asked Sri Kuman das.

“Yes, I can give you anything you want” said King Akbar.

“Then I ask you to never call me back again, this is what I only want” said Sri Kuman das.
