Bada Baithana

Please note, this is one of my old videos. For complete information watch the video at the bottom of the page.

Bathena Kala is situated four kilometres north east of Kokilavana and five kilometres west of Kosikala. The ancient name of this village is Bada Baithana. Here is Sri Krsna’s sitting place. In the village one can see Sri Dauji Mandira, Balabhadra Kunda and other places.

It is said that one day while herding the cows at this place, Krishna saw the gopis in the distance and asked Balarama to sit down (Baithna) at this place and wait for Him while He went to speak with Radharani. It is also said that Nanda Maharaja and his minister Upananda, would hold some of their important meetings here at the baithaka or sitting place within this village.

Sri Bhakti-ratnakara – Sri Raghava Pandita told Srinivasa and Narottama: “Look before you; here is the village of Baithana! Whenever the cowherds had anything to discuss they all sat down here. The cowherds sat here – hence it is called Baithana. Now the people give it two names – small Baithana and big Baithana. Being bound by the love of the Vrajavasis, Sanatana Gosvami stayed here in great bliss.”

Balabhadra Kunda

On the bank of Balabhadra Kunda a huge festival is being held on the day after Dola Purnima (Gaura Purnima). Here the villagers play the Huranga-game. Huranga means that the young girls of the village take sticks in their hands and beat the young men of the village with them. The young men protect themselves with tree branches. Sripada Sanatana Gosvami spent some time here in bhajanananda.
