Sri Mukharai Grama

Please note, this is one of my old videos. For complete information watch the video at the bottom of the page.

Mukharai village is situated two km south east of Sri Radhakunda Grama. Here Srimati Radharani’s maternal grandmother Mukharai lived, hence the village is named Sri Mukharai Grama. It is said that Mukharai used to take great transcendental pleasure in arranging secret meetings between Radha and Krishna, and every morning without fail, went to take darshana of the ‘Divine Couple’.

Sri bhakti ratnakara – “South of Sri Radha-kunda is the village of Mukharai. Going there, Raghava Pandita told Srinivasa: “Here Radhika’s old maternal grandmother lived, everyone knows that. Here Mukhara blissfully helped Radha to meet Krishna and had great fun with it”.

The pujari in the temple said:

King Vrsabhanu lived in Barsana. Everyday King Vrsabhanu would go to Raval and have a bath in the Yamuna river. One day he found a beautiful girl playing on a lotus flower, which was floating on the river. The King took the girl with him to Barsana and named her Radharani.

One day Radharani asked her father (King Vrsabhanu) “where is my grandmother’s home”.

The King replied “Mukharai”.

Sri Radharani, while roaming around with the gopis, came to Mukharai, her grandmother’s village. In Mukharai Radharani and the gopis would enjoy eating the pilu fruit from the pilu trees. In the morning, at the time of  Brahma muhurta, Radharani and the gopis would go to Kusum Sarovar. “Kusum” means flower and “Sarovar” means lake. In Kusum Sarovar, Radharani would pick a variety of flowers and then would make a garland for Sri Krishna.

Further ahead of Kusum Sarovar is a place called “Kunja Ragho”. Every day, after making a garland, Radharani would meet Sri Krishna in this place. Also Krishna would play with His friends at this place. Once the gopi’s made the form of an elephant also at this place.

Further away from Kusum Sarovar and Kunja Ragho is a lake called Surya Kunda. Over there Sri Radharani would offer water, chandan and flower garland to Sri Surya Narayana (Sun God), who is the giver of knowledge.

One day, after doing aarti, Radharani was going back home when she accidently dropped her bangle. Krishna found the bangle and kept it with him. When Radharani reached home, her grandmother, Sri Mukhara scolded Radharani and told her to go look for her bangle. While weeping, Radharani went looking for her bangle. While looking she met Krishna.

Krishna asked “why are you crying”.

Radharani said “I lost my bangle”.

Krishna said “I found your bangle on the ground and picked it up”.

After receiving the bangle from Krishna, Radharani went home and showed the bangle to Sri Mukhara.
