Maharana

The village of Maharana is situated one km north of Lebada and two miles west of Bhadokhara. In this village is the parental home of Sri Yasoda. East of the village is Ksira Sarovara and in the middle of the village is Sri Rama Janaki Mandira. In this temple one can see deities of mother Yasoda, Sri Rama-Laksmana and Sita devi. Apart from this there is a Gosala of Sri Krsna’s elder uncle Sri Abhinanda in this village. Sri Yasoda devi took birth in this village.
Mother Yasoda used to tell night time stories to make little Krishna sleep. Once mother Yasoda came to her parental home with little Krishna, but He was not ready to sleep. Mother Yasoda asked “why are you not sleeping?”.
Little Krishna said “you have to tell me a story”.
So mother Yasoda told the story of Lord Rama, Laksmana and Janaki devi. She told about how Ravana kidnipped Janaki devi and then little Krishna fall asleep.
While sleeping, Krishna dreamt about telling Lakshmana to get ready the bow and arrow so he would kill Ravana.
This temple represents that event, so it is called Sri Rama Janaki Mandira.
